Water treatment plant welcomes students

A Far North water treatment facility opened its doors to local students recently to take them to the ‘source’ of water treatment practices.

A Far North water treatment facility opened its doors to local students recently to take them to the ‘source’ of water treatment practices.

Students from Kawakawa Primary School have been learning about water this term, so a tour of the Kawakawa Water Treatment Plant was designed to show them all about the water treatment process and the importance of keeping our waterways clean for the future.

The tour was organised by the council’s alliance partner Far North Waters. Wayne Smith, Water Treatment Supervisor and Johan Guy, Operations and Maintenance Treatment Manager, took the students through the journey water takes at the facility – from arriving at the plant, to the process of making it drinkable, where it’s stored and then how it is delivered to the taps in their houses.
