Work on new Lake Manuwai toilet block begins

Hikers, rowers, and anglers will soon have new toilet and changing facilities at Lake Manuwai, a popular constructed lake 15km north west of Kerikeri.

Hikers, rowers, and anglers will soon have new toilet and changing facilities at Lake Manuwai, a popular constructed lake 15km north west of Kerikeri.

The new block will be a waterless dry vault, self-contained unit with two unisex toilets, a small service bay for cleaning equipment and a changing room with seating. No running water will be available, so personal hand sanitizer will be provided.

Waste will be stored in lined concrete underground holding tanks that are pumped out when needed and the waste taken off site for disposal.

Security fencing around the site was erected last week, and earthworks undertaken to prepare the site ahead of construction.

Public access to the lake remains unchanged, however, parking may be reduced temporarily to accommodate construction vehicles.

The new toilet block is co-funded by the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment from round five of the Tourism Infrastructure Fund (TIF). Go here to find out more about the fund and other government funded tourism projects.

The new Lake Manuwai facility is due for completion by the end of the month, just in time for the summer holidays.
