Worksite wraps up for Christmas

Extra parking will be available for visitors to Kāeo over the Christmas break with contractors temporarily clearing their Waikare footbridge work site in the heart of the town.

Extra parking will be available for visitors to Kāeo over the Christmas break with contractors temporarily clearing their Waikare footbridge work site in the heart of the town.

The new footbridge is being built next to the existing two-lane Waikare Creek Bridge on State Highway 10. It will provide a safe alternative for pedestrians, particularly those with prams or wheelchairs, who currently must use very narrow paths on the edge of road bridge, bringing them dangerously close to passing highway traffic.

The construction site currently occupies parking spaces outside Kāeo retailers. This area will be cleared for the holiday period once new concrete is poured for the footbridge this week.

The bridge is expected to be completed ahead of Auckland anniversary long weekend on 29 January. A small amount of landscaping will follow.

Far North District Council contractor Fulton Hogan is carrying out the $500,000 project.
