Volunteers sought for Kaikohe pātaka kai
Kaikohe Library staff are seeking volunteers to manage and support a shared food pantry, or pātaka kai, that was originally set up by the Kaikohe community.
Kaikohe Library staff are seeking volunteers to manage and support a shared food pantry, or pātaka kai, that was originally set up by the Kaikohe community.
Food items are donated by community members and can be collected from the shared pantry by anyone who needs them. Pātaka kai are often community initiatives and are a valued resource but do require volunteers to maintain them.
Unfortunately, the pātaka kai outside the Kaikohe Library no longer has clear ownership and has suffered from vandalism, destruction of donations and unwanted items being left there.
Kaikohe Library staff are asking for caretaking volunteers to manage this pātaka kai, so it continues to operate for the Kaikohe community.
For more information, please talk to our friendly library team. They support the manaaki that goes into a pātaka kai and are seeking ways to ensure the shared pantry is a positive addition to the community.
