    Kerbside rubbish and recycling collections in the Far North are provided by private waste companies.
    These services are not operated or funded by Far North District Council. Collection companies determine where services are available, collection schedules, accepted materials, and service charges.

    The companies decide what level of service is provided, what areas are serviced, how much is charged and what is collected for recycling.

    Northland Waste offers a user-pays kerbside recycling service in the Far North.

    Collection days for the recycling service align with Northland Waste’s rubbish collection days.

    Northland Waste

    Waste collectors have different coloured rubbish bags.

    Pre-paid rubbish bags can be purchased from many supermarkets, petrol stations, dairies, and local retailers. For information on the correct bag to purchase, please contact Northland Waste or Waste Management.

    Rubbish and recycling should be placed at the kerbside or an approved collection point no earlier than midday on the day before collection and no later than 7:00am on collection day.

    For safe collection, pre-paid rubbish bags must not exceed 10kg in weight.

    To help reduce waste sent to landfill, please recycle recyclable materials and compost food scraps and green waste wherever possible.

    Kerbside collection services operate on a user-pays basis. The cost of collecting, transporting, and processing your rubbish and recycling is included in the price of pre-paid rubbish bags and recycling crate subscriptions.

    Pre-paid rubbish bags must not be left in unauthorised locations. Bags should only be placed outside your property or at an approved, signposted collection point.

    Some rural residents may need to place their pre-paid rubbish bags at an approved collection points because collection vehicles do not service their road. Approved collection points are typically located at road intersections and are clearly signposted.
