Mental health hīkoi on Kaitāia main street

A hīkoi to mark Mental Health Awareness Week will travel through the main business centre of Kaitāia on Monday 6 October.

The hīkoi will close one lane of Commerce Street in the centre of Kaitāia when it starts at 10am at the Pukepoto end of that street. Hīkoi organisers, Te Hiku-based iwi Ngāti Kahu, plan for the procession to travel through the main business centre before ending at Te Ahu Centre on Mathews Avenue at about 11am.

Kaitāia residents and businesses are advised to plan for reduced access along Commerce Street during this time. The procession will have a police escort.

Mental Health Awareness Week runs from Monday 6 to Friday 10 October and is supported by the Mental Health Foundation and Health New Zealand-Te Whatu Ora.
