Appeals version of Proposed District Plan now available

Far North District Council has today released the Appeals version of the Proposed District Plan (PDP).

The appeal period closed on 12 August 2026. In total, 32 appeals to decisions on the Proposed District Plan were made to the Environment Court. These appeal notices are available to review on the council’s website. This page will also be updated to include notices of other parties who join the appeal proceedings.

The Appeals Version of the PDP shows which provisions are subject to appeal. These are identified with an orange dashed border and exclamation icon on the right-hand side. Mapped features subject to appeal are also identified on the planning map with an orange dashed polygon.

Provisions that are not appealed will be treated as 'operative', replacing equivalent provisions in the operative plan. If there are live appeals against a proposed provision, the proposed provision and any equivalent operative provisions may need to be considered through the resource consent process.

The council will update the Appeals Version of the PDP as appeals are resolved and will publish further updates as additional provisions are treated as operative.

Any members of the public seeking information about the appeal process should contact the Environment Court directly, which manages the appeals process. Far North District Council is a party to the proceedings and does not make the final decisions on appeals.

Once all appeals have been resolved or determined by the court, the Proposed District Plan can become fully operative. In the meantime, people are encouraged to regularly check the Appeals Version of the PDP to understand how changes to the Proposed District Plan may affect their properties, activities and future development.

For more information about the Proposed District Plan and the Appeals Version as well as guidance material, visit the council’s Proposed District Plan website or contact the District Plan team at pdp@fndc.govt.nz or on 0800 920 029.
