Far North District Council awards Core Roading Professional Services contract

Far North District Council (FNDC) has awarded its new Core Roading Professional Services contract to WSP New Zealand Ltd, commencing 1 June 2026. The contract establishes a long-term partnership to support the planning, management, delivery and oversight of the district’s roading network.

Under the agreement, WSP will work alongside FNDC roading staff in an integrated “one team” model, providing specialist expertise in asset management, programme planning, contract management of the new Operation and Maintenance contracts, capital works delivery oversight and emergency response coordination. The partnership is designed to improve service levels, strengthen network performance, and deliver greater value for money for ratepayers.

The initial contract term is three years, with options to extend for a further two years subject to performance outcomes. A comprehensive performance framework will measure service delivery, reporting, cost management, collaboration, contract management, safety, and continuous improvement to ensure high standards are maintained throughout the contract.

Following an open tender process, WSP was selected for its depth of professional services expertise and strong accountability processes. While WSP is an international company, it has extensive local knowledge, supported by established offices in Whangārei.

The new arrangement reinforces Council’s commitment to maintaining a safe, resilient and well-managed transport network while supporting the delivery of infrastructure priorities identified through the Long-Term Plan and Asset Management Plan.
