Temporary road closure for Kaikohe upgrade

A small section of Bisset Road in Kaikohe will be temporarily closed until Friday 28 August while work continues on the town’s wastewater upgrade project.

The closure will be in place between Hillcrest Road and Harold Road from 7am and 5pm each day this week while wastewater pipeline works are carried out. A detour will be in place via Hillcrest Road, Tawanui Road, and Harold Road.

Access to properties within the affected area will be managed by traffic management teams onsite, and motorists should take extra care, slow down and follow the instructions of the contractors.

Anyone heading to or from the Kaikohe Care Centre Rest Home & Dementia Unit should follow the detour.

The closure is required to complete the installation and connection of a new wastewater pipeline across Bisset Road. The work is part of the IAF Wastewater Reticulation Upgrade Project, and a full closure is necessary to ensure the safety of road users, pedestrians and construction crews.

The upgrade to Kaikohe’s water and wastewater infrastructure includes extending the town’s reticulation system (underground pipes for water and wastewater connections), upgrading the Taraire Hills Water Treatment Plant, and enabling future housing in the town. Completion of the entire project is expected in late-2026.
