Council seeks volunteers for climate change planning

Community members from across Hokianga, Whangapē, Herekino, Waimamaku and surrounding areas are being asked to join panels to plan for climate change.

Community Panels are the heart of adaptation planning and will help create Community Adaptation Plans. These will decide how communities and the council prepare for and respond to increasing storms, flooding and erosion.

Five Community Panels are being created, one for each of coloured areas in the map below:

For each area, Far North District Council is seeking nominations from local residents, ratepayers, hapū, marae, schools, community groups, local businesses or anyone wanting to find solutions for north and south Hokianga communities.

If you are interested in working together to address shared climate change challenges now and for future generations, we would love to hear from you.

Nominations are open until 26 July 2026.
