Kaikohe tamariki reach new heights with Plunket playground opening

A new playground at Kaikohe Plunket officially opened earlier this month, providing a safe and welcoming place for local tamariki under 5 to play, learn and thrive.

Community members gathered on 1 July at Kaikohe Plunket on Mangakahia Road for karakia, mihi and blessing to celebrate the completion of the project and acknowledge everyone who helped bring the vision to life.

The playground addresses an important need in the community, with Kaikohe previously lacking a fully fenced playground specifically designed for tamariki under five. The new space gives young children and their whānau a safe environment to connect, explore and play.

The project was supported by a range of community partners and donors, including the Kaikohe-Hokianga Community Board, which contributed $10,000 towards upgrading the playground to make it more accessible and usable for tamariki.

Chair Jessie McVeagh from the Kaikohe-Hokianga Community Board said the board was proud to support the project. "The Kaikohe Hokianga Community Board were really pleased to be able to support Kaikohe Plunket to build a fun and safe place for whanau to bring their pēpi to play outside."

Following the formal opening, guests shared kai and celebrated the successful completion of a project that will benefit local families for years to come.
