Save the date for Kaikohe's new Library and Civic Hub opening

The countdown is on for a transformative community facility in Kaikohe with the new library and civic hub set to officially open on Monday, 9 November 2026.

The day will begin with a dawn ceremony, where the building's official name will be unveiled, followed by community kai, activities and the opportunity for residents to explore the new facility. Normal library and council services will be available from that afternoon.

Opening day planning is now underway, with more details about the celebration to be shared closer to the date.

The project is known as Te Āta Haere. The name reflects the importance of taking the time to get something right and moving with intention, respect and integrity while valuing relationships and good processes. A name for this community asset will be gifted by local hapū when the construction project is completed, with Te Uri-o-Hua leading this process. It will be revealed during the opening ceremony, marking an important milestone in the project's kaupapa.

The new library and civic hub has been designed as a welcoming space for the hapori, bringing together library services, community spaces and opportunities for learning, creativity and connection. Alongside library collections, the new facility will include meeting rooms, a Maker Space, gaming room, recording booth and café.

Residents are encouraged to save the date so that they can join in the celebrations welcoming a new community facility for Kaikohe. Keep an eye on the project page for further details.
