VIDEO – Vandals destroy young saplings on Kerikeri Domain

Destruction of numerous young trees on Kerikeri Domain over the weekend has outraged locals and the community groups that planted them. Ngāti Rēhia, Healthy Families and Our Kerikeri are among organisations involved with the planting, including fruit trees, on the Kerikeri Domain.

Bay of Islands-Whangaroa community board member, Dane Hawker, expressed his disappointment: “All that great work has just taken a massive step backwards. As well as costing hundreds of dollars to repair and replace, it will take years to reinvigorate the area with the new trees.” CCTV footage from nearby cameras is being reviewed.
