Closures allow for upgrade of Waipapa toilet blocks
Two public toilet blocks at Waipapa are getting an upgrade. The facilities at Klinac Lane and Waipapa Landing are closed while the long-term work takes place.
Residents and visitors won’t find themselves caught short however, with port-a-loos in place at both sites until the upgrades are completed. There are also other public toilets in the area, and these are listed below.
Hilary Sumpter, Group Manager - Delivery and Operations at the Far North District Council, says a lot has changed since the construction of the two toilet blocks, which are at least 10 years old.
“Klinac Lane is in a commercial area that has grown in recent years, and both locations have seen an increase in foot traffic. There are also expanded residential developments and popular tourist attractions nearby, all of which has increased demand for public facilities.”
The significant upgrades include expanding the irrigation system at the Klinac Lane site and re-engineering the septic tanks at Waipapa Landing. Once completed, they will increase capacity and ensure the toilet blocks are fit for ongoing use.
In the meantime, facilities are open nearby at Te Puāwaitanga – Bay of Islands Sports Hub in Waipapa. Others are available at:
- the Kerikeri Town Basin Carpark at Landing Road
- Cobham Road in Kerikeri
- Julian Carpark in Kerikeri
- the Kerikeri Sports Complex.
You can find more information about the location of public facilities on the council’s website here.
