Arawhata Road and Mangatete Heights bags a new kerbside service
Residents on Arawhata Road and Mangatete Heights in Kaingaroa, will have a more convenient way to dispose of household rubbish, with kerbside collections being introduced.
From Wednesday 14 October, residents will have prepaid rubbish bags collected from the end of their driveways. This door-to-door service will replace the current rural collection point at the end of Arawhata Road, which closes on Tuesday 6 October.
Kerbside collections of recycling can also be arranged, and residents should contact Northland Waste about subscribing to the service.
The change is part of a wider initiative to provide safer, fairer and more environmentally responsible waste services across Te Hiku ward. The Arawhata Road collection point has experienced ongoing issues with illegal dumping and unsecured waste being spread into surrounding areas and roadsides by strong winds and rain. The environmental impacts include decomposing rubbish leaching into soils and nearby waterways. Closing the collection point and providing alternative rubbish and recycling services will remove these risks.
The nearby Awanui Refuse Transfer Station at 94 State Highway 1 also accepts recycling and provides an alternative drop-off option for residents.
