The historic North Hokianga settlement of Kohukohu has two cemeteries – both on Rakautapu Road – and both will see work to upgrade perimeter fences begin on Wednesday 7 February.

The work will take up to three weeks and will repair existing picket fences, install new wooden post-and-rail barriers, remove mesh and waratah fences and install a new gate at the northern section of the cemetery. The goal is to improve the resilience and visual appeal of cemetery fencing, and also make the perimeters animal proof.

The project will be funded through the council’s renewals budget and will be undertaken by a whānau-owned and Far North-based contracting company.
