Jump on board Te Waka and host an America’s Cup FanZone!
The America’s Cup races start on 6 March 2021 and will take place every two days until the first team wins nine races. The Far North District was asked if we wanted to host an official America’s Cup FanZones in March 2021. We thought this was a great opportunity for communities to get behind Emirates Team New Zealand!
Eight communities and organisations applied to host official FanZones and we are pleased to announce that all applications were successful.
The FanZones will be hosted by:
- Mangonui Cruising Club
- Waipapa Business Association (co-hosted by Waipapa Lions Club)
- The Turner Centre, Kerikeri
- Business Paihia
- Opua Cruising Club
- The Duke Tavern, Russell
- Otehei Bay, Urupukapuka Island
- The Towai/Maromaku Residents and Ratepayers Association
Council wants to support communities across the district to take the lead and becoming buzzing venues for watching the races. Communities can use the event as a fundraising opportunity to support local projects/charities.
Official FanZones are recognised by America’s Cup Events and sponsors may attend in a promotional capacity – they could also be visited by news crews, keen to see how even those in more remote areas of New Zealand are sharing in the excitement of the America’s Cup.
Keep an eye on this page for updates as we share what our official FanZones have planned for the races!
