Water is among the Far North’s most precious commodities. The Council provides treated water to eight communities: Kaikohe-Ngāwhā, Kaitāia, Kawakawa-Moerewa, Kerikeri-Waipapa, Ōkaihau, Ōmanaia-Rāwene, Ōpononi-Ōmāpere, and Paihia-Waitangi-Ōpua. Most raw water is sourced directly from rivers and streams before treatment, although some supplies also use water drawn from underground aquifers or man-made reservoirs.
