Proposed district plan
The council is reviewing the current District Plan. This is the set of rules that control where you can undertake certain activities, and how land can be used, developed and subdivided. The District Plan affects all landowners and residents in the Far North.
On the 11 June 2026 the Far North District Council approved the release of its decisions on submissions to the Proposed District Plan (PDP).
The council’s decisions on submissions on the Proposed District Plan were formally notified on Tuesday 30 June 2026. This notification also marks the beginning of the appeal period, during which submitters may appeal the council's decisions to the Environment Court. It also means all of the Proposed District Plan – Decision Version provisions have legal effect (under s86B(1) of the Resource Management Act 1991).
Guidance on how to interpret and apply the Operative and Proposed District Plans during this transitional period is provided in the council decisions on submissions tile below.
